Tips For Healthy Long Hair

There are many misconceptions about healthy long hair, from cutting your hair only once a year to an overdose of biotin. But honestly, the secret to long, healthy hair is a smart hair care routine.

For some women, growing gorgeous long hair comes naturally, but for the rest of us, changing up our hair care routine is necessary to achieve the same results.

However, we wanted to give you a simple step-by-step process to achieve long, shiny hair!

Check out our professional hair care tips for all hair types to help guide you on your journey to longer hair.

Get Frequent Trims — Yes, Really

While the idea may seem completely counterintuitive, frequent trimming is a must if you want your hair to be not only long but healthy. No one likes messy, damaged hair, even if it’s long. While frequent trimming won’t actually make your hair grow faster, it will get rid of the split ends that cause your hair to break off in time.
Eliminating breakage makes your hair look like it’s growing faster. After all, split ends are what cause you to eventually lose length, not to mention shine, volume and smoothness.

Resist The Urge To Go Blonde

As gorgeous and stylish as any blonde shade is this year, we don’t recommend going from a darker shade to a lighter one if you want to grow your hair out. Every time you use bleach on your hair cuticles, you are damaging the existing health of your hair and increasing your risk of split ends.

You should limit the number of times you put your hair through chemical treatments throughout your hair growth phase.

Disperses The Hair’s Natural Oils

We know how difficult it can be to find the energy to comb your hair before bed, but you can increase the health of your hair if you give your hair a quick brush before bed. We recommend using a boar bristle brush to evenly distribute the oil in your hair on the shaft and at the ends of your hair.

This simple step will increase blood circulation to your scalp and result in a healthier scalp. Scalp health is important to keep your hair healthy.

Eat the right foods

Having long beautiful hair is not just about the products you use on your hair, but also what you put in your body. If you want to promote hair growth, you need to start feeding your hair from the inside out. To increase the protein in your hair, increase your protein intake by eating foods like fish, beans, nuts, and whole grains.

If you have constant hair loss anywhere, as many women do, it may be a sign that your diet is low in protein. Foods high in protein, as well as vitamins A, C, and E, minerals such as zinc and iron, and omega-3 fatty acids, can promote healthy hair.

Avoid Heat Styling Tools

It’s time to put your heat tools away for a while. If heat is a must, our stylists recommend putting at least a little more effort into using heat protectant to protect your hair – otherwise, you risk damaging your hair every time you reach for a hot tool, which can lead to breakage and frizz.

Skip The Daily Shampoo

We’ve all heard the recommendations of stylists and women with great hair who credit their long locks to skipping shampoo. But, do you know why it actually helps your hair?

Washing your hair with shampoo two to three times a week will allow your natural oils to penetrate deep into your hair, moisturizing and rejuvenating it.

Add A Vitamin To Your A.M. Routine

Many women have discovered the benefits of adding a multivitamin to their daily routine to supplement the deficiencies in their diet. You’ll want to look for a multivitamin specifically labeled “for hair, skin and nails”

Finish Your Shower With a Cool Rinse

As relaxing as a super wet shower is, the truth is it’s bad for your hair. Next time you go to the shower and wash your hair, turn the temperature down a bit. Our stylists also recommend a cold rinse after you wash to help seal the cuticle and strengthen your hair before styling.

Be Careful When You Brush Wet Hair

Your hair is super prone to breakage when wet, but if you absolutely have to get some stubborn tangles out, we recommend using a brush that’s easy on your hair.

There are actually techniques for brushing wet hair that will help prevent breakage. Start brushing gently at the ends of your hair, gradually working your way up. Don’t just brush the top layer, but brush the hair underneath as well. If a traditional brush doesn’t work for you, choose a wide-tooth comb instead.

Stop Doing Trendy “Cleanses”

As tempting as that fad cleanses may be, the diet companies selling them don’t have your hair’s best interests at heart. Those fad diets are bad for your hair’s health.

Trendy cleansing methods actually deprive your body of the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. You won’t notice any difference in your hair immediately, but about a week after you finish cleansing, you may notice a lack of vitality in your hair and you’ll experience slow hair growth. You may even experience some additional hair loss.

Sleep An A Silk Pillowcase

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.Yes, it is entirely possible to get better hair while you sleep. All you need to do is change your pillowcase to a silk one. Silk will be easier on your hair and will help avoid tangles and breakage. It has been proven that the less your hair breaks, the longer and healthier your hair will be.

Pay Attention To Your Skin

Many products can make your hair look shiny and you’ll believe that the product is working for your hair, but the truth is that it’s not always that simple. If the product makes your skin feel dry, flaky, heavy, waxy, sticky or greasy, it basically does the same for your hair.

However, if your product leaves your skin feeling soft, hydrated, silky and supple, you are treating your hair with a quality product. If your follicles are clogged and congested, it’s unlikely to grow effectively.
